Santa Rosa’s Choice Environment
The Junior College Neighborhood reflects the history and vitality of Santa Rosa. Stately McDonald Avenue showcases the elegant homes built by Santa Rosa’s founding families. King Street reminds residents of the not-so-distant past, when walnut trees were cultivated by local farmers.
You can still see evidence of the rail tracks that ran along Pacific Avenue and North Street. Our streets and yards are shaded by Redwood, Sycamore, Cedar of Lebanon, Magnolia, and many other inspiring varieties of trees.
The Neighborhood’s residents are close to downtown and to the Junior College, and value each other as neighbors.
We gather in our neighborhood parks for produce exchanges.
A few of us open our yards for community gardens. Our neighbors share Meyer lemon, quince, guava, figs, pears, and many other types of fruit from our trees.
The Neighborhood values innovation and community living.
The Humboldt Bicycle Boulevard encourages bicycle use; native plants and flowers abound; and the community bulletin board puts us in touch with each other.
Generations of Santa Rosa families have called the Junior College neighborhood their home. Many of Santa Rosa’s newest residents have found that this is a place where they are quickly welcomed and can establish their own roots in this diverse and energetic community.
